Amid the loud cheers of hundreds of his fans, Bollywood Mega Superstar Amitabh Bachchan carried the Olympic Torch in London on 26 July 2012. This is one day before the inauguration of the much awaited 2012 London Olympic Games.
69 year old veteran actor became the torchbearer and carried the flame on the torch rally leg between The City of London and Southwark during Day 69 of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay. The Olympic torch is supposed to touch all the iconic landmarks in London.
Mr. Bachchan was a special invitee from India and is honored with the prestigious roll of torchbearer in this event which started at 10.30 am. Celebrities and legendary personalities from all across the world were present to be a part of this event. Among these were present Lewis Moody, Jim Anderson, Lawrence Dallaglio, Darren Fitzpatrick, Tom Davis and Phil Packer – to name a few.
It is said that Mr. Bachchan carrying the Olympic torch as a special invitee, is a big honor for the country and entire nation has become proud of the occasion.
Sikhs protest against Amitabh in London
Amidst Big B’s torch carrying event on the worlds biggest platform, Sikhs from London have raised protest against him for carrying the torch for he is accused by victims of the Sikh genocide in 1984 in Delhi to had instigated violence against Sikhs. Some members of the Sikh community in North and East London gathered together to protest against Mr. Bachchan – who according to them is an alleged criminal responsible for genocide crimes being allowed to come to London. “Murderer! Murderer! You will be exposed!” – shouted the angry Sikhs as per the reports. However, Mr. Amitabh was believed to be saddened by this and expresses his concerns.
